Services

The Wellington Loop offer a wide rang of services and the opportunity to  access technologies at an enterprise scale to our schools.

High Speed Fibre Optic

The Wellington Loop is a learning community of six secondary schools connected by high speed fibre optic cable supplied  by Citylink Ltd

Learning Management System

The Wellington Loop has a shared learning management system (LMS) around the Moodle and Mahara open source platform. The LMS serves three possible roles:

  • Providing the technology to help build a collaborative community using tools such as discussion forums and message boards
  • Building a repository for sharing and finding learning resources and objects.
  • Creating e-learning environments for delivering learning materials over a course delivery lifecycle.

Digital Content

The Wellington Loop is using  MySource Matrix

plateform as an enterprise class Content Management System (CMS).

A CMS and Learning Management System (LMS) empowers people to manage their own digital resources. The Loop portal itself is an example of the Loop community building a website that is not specific to a school.

For example, if a group of teachers or students wants to build a website around a curriculum theme the framework will exist to support that sort of activity.

Demand Aggregation

The Wellington Loop community has the advantage of considerable collective purchasing power by standardizing configurations and achieving economies of scale. We will use this to make it practical for vendors and schools alike to benefit from a consolidated purchasing environment.

Building Strong Teaching and Learning Communities

There are remarkable innovations going on in our classrooms every day. The Wellington Loop community infrastructure will use tools such as the Moodle learning management and collaboration system to build a collaborative community of educators and students. This supports existing ICT clusters and professional development initiatives.

Achieving economies of scale

The Wellington Loop community also allows our schools to coordinate buying of technology and access technologies at an enterprise scale that, as individual schools, would not be justifiable in cost-benefit terms.
